The Inky Big Pocket Jacket is part of a series made from silk textile waste sourced from Think Positive Prints, an international leader in sustainable digital printing. We over-dye their silk colour trials and misprinted lengths with a natural dyeing technique in order to cover and obscure the prints that cannot be used commercially due to copyright reasons.
We overdye the garments using logwood, a pigment from sustainably managed forests, and oak galls, that are responsibly and locally collected. The garment is then dipped in an iron based water, modifying the natural colour of the logwood in order to achieve the deep inky tones.

THIS GARMENT IS NATURALLY OVER-DYED WITH SUSTAINABLY SOURCED LOGWOOD PIGMENTS, GATHERED IN MANAGED FORESTS. THE COLOUR IS EXTRACTED FROM THE HEARTWOOD OF THIS TREE, THAT IS MOSTLY FOUND IN CENTRAL, SOUTH AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN ISLANDS. WE SOAK THE GARMENT IN BOTH ALUM AND OAK GALL SOLUTIONS TO HELP FIX THE COLOUR ONTO THE FIBRE AND TO IMPROVE ITS LONGEVITY. ALUM IS MADE OF MINERALS AND IS COMMONLY USED AS A MORDANT TO IMPROVE THE LIGHT AND WASH FASTNESS OF THE DYED FABRIC. THE OAK GALLS, HAND COLLECTED FROM OUR LOCAL VICINITY, ARE RICH IN TANNINS AND ARE USED AS A BINDING INGREDIENT. THE GARMENT IS ADDED INTO THE DYE BATH AND THEN DIPPED IN AN IRON BASED WATER, THAT CHEMICALLY MODIFIES THE NATURAL COLOUR OF THE LOGWOOD IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THE DEEP INKY TONES. UNLIKE MOST SYNTHETIC DYES, THE LEFTOVER DYE VAT LIQUID AND PLANT MATTER ARE SAFE TO RETURN TO OUR SOILS.
THERE MAY BE INDISCREPANCIES IN ITS SURFACE WHICH IS A NATURAL PART OF THE PROCESS.
TO KEEP THE NATURAL COLOUR HAND COLD WASH OR COLD DELICATE ONLY. IT IS ADVISED TO USE A PH NEUTRAL DETERGENT.
STORE AWAY FROM DIRECT LIGHT. LOW IRON AND STEAM. DO NOT TUMBLE DRY. WASH ALONE OR WITH SIMILAR COLOURS.
