WW SS14
SETTING
A SELECTION OF PIECES HAS BEEN SET WITHIN A DYSTOPIAN POST-APOCALYPTIC DISPLAY BY DAVID WHITE IN THE BEAUTIFUL CAVERNOUS WHITE ROOMS OF FERNANDEZ AND WELLS.
INSPIRATION
THE INSPIRATION OF THESE PIECES COME FROM A TRAVEL ACROSS SEVERAL THEMES INCLUDING, EMPTY SPACE, GRAVITY, BARREN LANDSCAPES, DISRUPTED FABRIC, SUSPENDED MOVEMENT, SKELETAL FORMS, CLINICAL COLOURS, DESOLATE AND LONELY DETAILS, HARMONY AND DISCORD. EASY SHAPES HAVE BEEN SET AGAINST HEAVILY WORKED PIECES TO CREATE A COLLECTION WITH AN ACTIVE DIALOGUE OF SURFACE, SHAPE AND COLOUR.
COLOUR
A VARIETY OF NUDE AND FLESH TONES ARE BROKEN UP WITH SHARP SHOTS OF BRIGHT PAPER WHITE AND RICH SCARLET. THESE FLESHY PINKS SIT UNEASILY AGAINST THE BRIGHT REDS WHILE TONE ON TONE BLACKS ARE LAYERED UP IN A VARIETY OF DIFFERING FABRIC DENSITY.
TEXTURE
BUNCHED OVER SIZED SHEER FABRICS SQUASH AND RUMPLE INTO LAYERED UP TIGHTER GARMENTS CREATING ERRATIC WRINKLES. ORDERED RUCHED SOFT TULLES ARE DRAPED AND WEIGHTED WITH WIDE ELASTICS TO FORM STRONG BUT SOFT GEOMETRIC BANDS ACROSS THE BODY. DEEP IMPASTO KNOTS ARE KNITTED WITH LONG STRIPS OF A FINE STRETCH MESH INTO THICK MACROMED BOX-LIKE GARMENTS. SOLID AND STATIC UTILITARIAN ELASTICS PLAY AGAINST THE GENERAL SOFTNESS OF COLOUR AND SHEER SURFACES, THEY ALMOST BIND THE BODY IN THEIR NATURE.
SHAPE
STRAIGHT FORWARD IN NATURE BUT LAYERED UP IN COMPOSITION, THE SS14 SHAPES CREATE DIFFERING LENGTHS AND SILHOUETTES.
SIMPLE BOXER SHORTS ARE PAIRED WITH COCOON TEXTILE SKIRTS, DRAPE IS CINCHED WITH ELASTIC AND WEIGHTLESS OVERSIZED JACKETS LOOSELY ENGULF THE BODY.
