HOMO FABER “CRAFTING A MORE HUMAN FUTURE.”
PHOEBE ENGLISH was asked to be a featured designer in the first edition of the new cultural exhibition ‘Homo Faber’ in Venice, Italy. Founded by Italian gallerist Jean Blanchaert and acclaimed architect Stefano Boeri, the exhibition was a homage to artisanal and luxury craftsmanship, with a focus on European artistry.
Work from the Phoebe English benchmark 2012 collection of hand smocked calico, and the more recent SS18 knotted rope collection were displayed with their accompanying marionettes, made for the V&A Fashion in Motion retrospective show in 2018. The pieces sat alongside archive garments from designers including Azzedine Alaïa, Chanel, Maison Margiela, Schiaparelli, Off-White and Hussein Chalayan.
